Defines 'man' and 'woman' in state law.
This bill adds definitions of biological sex and gender terms to South Dakota's statutory definitions section. It defines 'male' and 'female' based on reproductive systems, defines 'man' as adult human male and 'woman' as adult human female, adds definitions for 'boy,' 'girl,' 'father,' 'mother,' and defines 'sex' as biological sex (either male or female). The bill also prohibits state funding for anything contrary to these definitions.
Sets rules for who can use changing rooms, sleeping quarters, and restrooms.
This bill amends South Dakota's changing room, restroom, and sleeping quarters law by: (1) limiting the definition of 'changing room' to only those 'open to the public', (2) removing the requirement that ALL multi-occupancy changing rooms be sex-designated and instead requiring only multi-occupancy restrooms to be sex-designated, (3) adding exemptions for rooms used exclusively by firefighters, law enforcement, musical/theatrical entertainers, or for governmental regulatory purposes, and (4) expanding exceptions to include these same groups when using facilities designated for their exclusive use.
